OH BOY!!! We worked our asses off for all the Democrats on the ballot in Harris County and it was a countywide SWEEP! Harris County is the third largest county in the nation. Lizzie Fletcher won the 7th Congressional by over 11,000 votes in a huge pickup for a seat held forever by Republicans. Beto O’Rourke carried the county by 196,000 votes.
All of the judicial candidates won by comfortable margins, as did the Democrats running for the administrative offices. BUT the shock of the night was Lina Hidalgo ousting longtime County Judge Ed Emmett by almost 18,000 votes. Emmett was a patronizing jackass to her whenever they were at events together so it was pure karma to hear that he conceded after her margin grew to 6,000 after being down in the Early Vote.
A vibrant young Latina is now the highest executive in the third largest county in the nation. Commissioners Court is now majority Democratic with Adrian Garcia’s win for Precinct 2. Don’t think for a moment that Texas didn’t have some massive changes last night. It did. But this one change is a sign of the times and it should scare the living hell out of the Texas Republican Party.
Change is coming! Harris County is proof that is it happening right now.
