But this crap is happening in the US, and to some degree has always happened. Heck, the Republicans used a stacked Supreme Court to steal a presidential election in 2000. Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, Donald Trump, Brian Kemp and Ron DeSantis are trying to steal elections in Florida and Georgia. These people do not want democracy, they want to retain oligarchy and are willing to suppress votes and violate rights to do so.
That is why Scott and Trump are trying to stop the actual counting of votes. They are supported by a network of bots and anti-democratic operatives from the far right.
“Every Floridian should be concerned there may be rampant fraud happening in Palm Beach and Broward counties,” Scott said. “I will not sit idly by while unethical liberals try to steal this election from the people of Florida.” — www.washingtonpost.com/...
What a load of festering hogwash this is. Democrats must push back forcefully, and the House must refer for investigation the civil rights and voting rights violations of various Republican Secretaries of States. Only the clear prospect of prison will keep them from recreating Jim Crow..
They have already begun doing this. Fox News hack Brit Hume suggested that Acosta did not accord adequate deference during questioning to a President who is both a bully and a harasser and therefore deserves what he got.
Meanwhile, the White House press secretary, a public servant, is sharing doctored videos as propaganda to support her retaliation against a reporter.
The Republican party has had authoritarian tendencies for decades. Paternalism and authoritarianism are part of the ethos of reactionary conservatism, so of course the party was ready for a con-man like Trump.
And yes, the relentless assault on our rights and dignities by the Republican party is exhausting. Many of us are bone-tired from flat-out volunteering on various campaign. But the handmaidens of the oligarchy never rest, and unless we want to live in their dystopian vision for America we have to continue the fight.
Solidarity, only solidarity, is the answer.
