While I live outside America, I have followed American politics pretty much since the 2016 election. And since the election of Trump, I have been very proud to see a growing progressive movement in the USA. I see that people are finally coming to their senses after eight years of Republican domination at the state and congressional level, and in this article, I’m going to explain why I’m a progressive.
I’m a progressive because I believe that you should not be defined by who you are, but what you do. I’m a progressive because I believe that race, gender, and creed shouldn’t be obstacles in today’s society. I’m a progressive because I believe that every single child should have a top-quality education, and should be safe from the threat of gun violence. I’m a progressive because I believe that in today’s America, it is not just small, incremental changes that we need, but a true social movement that will change American politics forever. I’m a progressive because I believe that healthcare and a college degree should be available to every person, so that we can realise the potential of every single person.
I’m a progressive because I am alarmed that figures such as Steve Bannon and Donald Trump are being normalised within the GOP, and because I believe that America needs to eradicate the disease that is called conservatism, in exchange for a more moderate, bipartisan GOP, just like the one before Reagan.
And that’s why Democrats need to flood the streets and the voting booths, and get every since goddamn Republican out of every single goddamn state legislature, judiciary, school board, mayoral office, governorship, congressional seat, and beyond.
