No. No. A Million Times NO!
I raised the issue with students today. Not one supported it.
I have talked about it with fellow educators.
I have yet to find one who supports it.
I know that there are already states that allow for the possibility.
They are wrong.
For lots of reasons.
There were armed officers on the grounds at Columbine and at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. In the former, he exchanged gunfire with the two shooters, but it made no difference.
Yesterday I let fly with a Twitter Thread which I share beneath the fole.
14/ most mentally ill people do not kill lots of other people, and we do not have any more mentally ill ppl than other countries. So what is the difference? #Schoolshootings

15/ we have too many guns. Plain and simple. Other countries have far more restricting of various weapons & have far fewer shootings, in schools or elsewhere #Schoolshootings

16/ and while I understand the desire to "harden" schools, we need to be careful - we do not want to turn schools into prisons or why should the students want to come there or be expected to learn? #Schoolshootings

I will read responses, but as a teacher I have planning to do, lesson plans to draft, papers to grade. At least I dont have to clean my weapon. #Schoolshootings
