As we all know from the infamous Sugar-Free Gummy Bear Incident, Amazon reviews can be a wonderful black hole of a time sink way to spend time. And when you mix it with that other time sink internet destination, Twitter, it can get even better. What could make it better? Make yourself comfortable and follow me below the Story Break and a word from our sponsor to find out!
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
Over the past weekend, under the hashtag #RateASpecies, zookeepers from across the country described their animals in the style of Amazon-type reviews. I stumbled upon this and managed to lose a vast quantity of time I’ll never see again spent an enjoyable interlude reading the funny, creative offerings. For your enjoyment tonight, here are some of my favorites:
I’d hoped to be wickedly creative and do some of my own species rating reviews, but the Muse is freaked about getting snow tomorrow AGAIN and is out getting French Toast Supplies. If your Muse is working tonight, please post YOUR reviews in the comments!
Thanks to our always five-star rated BeninSC, we have the trio of Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures that you expect every time you order this longrunning community diary series!!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
Note: Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? Contact brillig.
From karenb123:
karenb123’s first ever Top Comments submission (cue the marching band and thank you brigade!) comes from Jen Hayden’s diary about the shooting today in a Maryland high school. In this comment, DerAmi asks the somewhat snarky question of the NRA, and MikeTheLiberal provides the brilliant answer! (Ed. note: Also peek at the neat twist found in RepublicanKos’s followup! That ‘twist’ is credited to Daily Kos member, Critical Thinking.)
From BeninSC:
In last night’s Top Comments diary, in which I spoke of the historical ‘first’ upset of a number 1 seed by a number 16 seed, in this comment, Cali Scribe posted a critically important correction. It first happened TWENTY YEARS AGO! My apologies for the egregiously incorrect information, and for the inexcusable example of male privilege. I apologize. And am happy to stand corrected.
Highlighted by igualdad:
Is this fine, diary-length comment by benny05! (igualdad explains why.)
Highlighted by Skookum:
Is this insightful comment by wonder6789, about keeping an eye on what really matters now. (And it ain’t revenge and punitive behavior.) Skookum’s highlighting comment is also very good.
Top Mojo ala mik!
For Monday, March 19, 2018, first comments and tip jars excluded. Thank you mik for the mojo magic! For those of you interested in How Top Mojo Works, please see his diary on the subject.
