Received this e-mail today from Superintendent Tony Evers’ (D. WI) gubernatorial campaign:
Over the past eight years, Governor Scott Walker has failed to address rampant lead poisoning and runoff pollution from mega farms that has been contaminating wells and drinking water across Wisconsin.
On top of the growing lead contamination through our water, lead paint continues to be the highest source of poisoning for our kids.
This is unacceptable to Tony, and it’s why he just introduced the “Safe Water, Safe Kids” proposal to demand that our government act immediately to protect the water supply of Wisconsin kids. Lives are on the line.

From Watertown to Buffalo County to Milwaukee, communities across Wisconsin are suffering from lead contamination worse than that of Flint, Michigan.
As a lifelong educator, Tony has seen firsthand the real impact of lead poisoning on children. There are hazardous levels of lead in the public water systems of one-third of Wisconsin’s counties.
In addition to lead contamination, land owners across Wisconsin have been struggling with well contamination from the expansion of mega farms, which produce and spread millions of gallons of manure every year. Manure contains the bacterium E. coli, which can cause kidney damage in children.
Walker has sat on the sidelines while our water supply and the children who depend on it have been put in grave danger of poisoning.

What world are we living in where it’s OK for our kids to get sick from drinking tap water? It seems to be OK in a Walker administration. But this November, we have an opportunity to send a strong message that it will never again be OK in Wisconsin.
Onward,
Team Evers
