Received this e-mail today from former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director, Richard Cordray’s (D. OH) gubernatorial campaign:
We have a problem: By 2020, 64% of jobs in Ohio will require at least an associate's degree. At the same time, the cost of going to college is skyrocketing to the point that many students can’t afford to pursue higher education.
That’s not good for anyone. If we’re going to demand that people have more education and training, then why shouldn’t we make that education and training available at no additional cost?
That’s exactly what Betty and I are proposing here in Ohio: Community college should be completely free.
Free college isn’t just one of those things that sounds good on a bumper sticker. We’re serious about making education more accessible and helping Ohioans qualify for and get good jobs.
There’s no reason not to make getting an education, getting a great job, and participating in our economy easier. It’s good for everyone. It’s good for students, it’s good for businesses, and it’s good for the economy.
If you agree, step up! Add your name to stand behind our plan to make community college free across Ohio.
Thanks—I hope you’re with us on this,
Rich
