It's official.
Trump is giving Kim what North Korea's brutal dictators have wanted for decades: recognition on the world stage. His policy goals in doing so are at once grandiose and vague, as he’s aiming for a complete rollback of North Korea's nuclear program. Note what we haven't been hearing much of from Trump—any discussion of human rights abuses by the regime. Because of course that is of no interest to him.
Kudos to the administration on the release of the three American prisoners, who landed on U.S. soil early Thursday morning. That’s an achievement. But unless Trump’s team makes immense gains in professionalism and somehow manages to contain him by June 12, it might be the only good to come out of this.
