Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar’s (D. MN) re-election campaign:
After the President’s speech laying out his so-called plan on lowering prescription drug prices, a headline in the Wall Street Journal read “Drug Industry Relieved by Price Proposal.”
And the proof? After the President’s announcement, Pharma stocks actually went up!
How about some relief for consumers, for families of kids with cancer struggling to pay for treatment, and for seniors rationing insulin?
I say it’s time to pass my bill to lift the ban on negotiating drugs prices for Medicare Part D. I think 41 million seniors could drive a pretty hard bargain and we should let them do it!
I also have several bipartisan bills that are ready to go -- we just need more people in Washington willing to stand up to the drug companies. Sign my petition if you agree.
We can get safe, less expensive drugs from countries like Canada. In Minnesota, we can see Canada from our porch! There’s no reason we should pay more than double, on average, what people pay in Canada.
And we should end the outrageous practice known as “pay for delay,” where brand-name pharmaceutical companies actually pay their competitors to keep generic versions of their drugs off the market. Stopping these deals could save taxpayers nearly $3 billion dollars in just 10 years.
If you think it’s time for consumers, families and seniors to get some relief, and not the drug companies, sign my petition.
It’s time to get to work.
Amy
