Donald Trump’s trade war with U.S. allies just keeps growing. The European Union has announced $3.4 billion in tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation for Trump’s tariffs on European aluminum and steel. The newly announced tariffs are set to take effect in July, and include:
… bourbon whiskey, motorcycles, denim, cigarettes, cranberry juice, orange juice, some pants and shorts, some bedlinen, corn, tobacco, t-shirts, motor boats, some rice, some beans, peanut butter, and forms of aluminum and steel.
Bourbon whiskey, huh? So that’s basically the EU waving to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. At this point, the U.S. faces a monster list of tariffs from the EU, China, Canada and Mexico, many of them targeting swing states or, as in the case of the whiskey, the home states of Republican leaders. And when we’re talking about Canada and the EU, we’re not for the most part talking about places that have gained trade advantages on the U.S. by having weaker labor standards.
But, you know, hashtag MAGA.
