Update: The long decline of American unions is over. FAA air traffic controllers have forced Trump and the Republicans to end the government shut down. When Ronald Reagan broke the air traffic control strike in the early ‘80s and fired the workers it empowered American corporations to crush unions by moving south to non-union states, offshoring and outsourcing. This process led to an actual decline in the standard of living of workers in union states and the decay of once glorious American cities such as Detroit. Today that long cycle of the decline of American labor has been stopped by non other than the air traffic controllers. God bless them.
Yesterday afternoon my wife and I scrambled to respond to a flight delay of more than an hour in North Carolina that would have caused her to miss her connection in Phoenix. New York, La Guardia, Chicago O’ Hare and New Jersey, Newark airports were all showing extensive delays yesterday afternoon and it impacted her flight out of Raleigh. Personnel shortages reported on the east coast made it necessary to increase the distances between planes taking off and landing.
Fortunately, were heading to the airport when she got a text that the delay make her miss her connection and she was able to get through to Southwest on her cell phone and reschedule through Chicago Midway and only arrive an hour late on the west coast. We got lucky.
However, as Jen Haden www.dailykos.com/... and the Gothamist have reported today the east coast slow downs are increasing. And the Gothamist has been informed by a FAA national airspace manager than this will be the new normal until the government shut down is over. This is pressuring Trump to end the shut down immediately.
