For the last 225 days, Senate Majority Leader Moscow Mitch McConnell has refused to bring the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) passed by the House to the Senate floor. The only reason? The bill has a provision to prevent people who have stalked their partner or have a restraining order against them from purchasing a firearm.

Speaking of firearms, the House passed an extended background check bill on Feb. 27. McConnell still hasn't allowed it to come to the Senate floor. In fact, while another school shooting was underway in Santa Clarita, California, on Thursday, Republicans were blocking a Democratic effort to bring it to the floor by unanimous consent.
These are just two of the desperately critical bills the House has passed that McConnell refuses to allow to be considered in the Senate.
Now McConnell is trolling the nation, claiming that the House is too involved in impeachment hearings to do its work. "Washington Democrats in the House and the Senate cannot simply stop legislating because of one hearing in the House," he tweeted Thursday. "The American people deserve progress: Funding for the national defense. Key legislation to support our armed forces. The USMCA and the new jobs it would create."
Senate Democrats are objecting to defense spending because McConnell has thus far kept Trump's border wall funding in it, knowing that that funding won't pass in the House.
As for the USMCA, Trump's renegotiated NAFTA, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced just hours before that McConnell tweet that a breakthrough in negotiations was "imminent."
Which means Pelosi was indeed working on USMCA while the House is also conducting the impeachment inquiry. The only thing standing in the way of Congress doing legislating are Moscow Mitch and his protection of Trump.
