Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share a virtual kitchen table with other readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by to talk about music, your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper…. Newcomers may notice that many who post in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table and hope to make some new friends as well.
Please do not attack Democratic candidates or drag primary fights into our community.
As the fate of our democracy hangs in the balance, I imagine any number of us have our stomachs in knots. Everyday. I know I do. So I offer a couple light board games as diversions — one of which I have played and one I haven’t (but it has “nomandates” written all over it). As lastly, there is one “heavy” game that should be landing on the porch any minute!
Horrified
There is something cathartic about battling monsters as a group. Even better if you can giggle about it. This is what I played on Halloween. I highly recommend this game for silly fun. Here is Horrified, reviewed by my favorite New Zealand game reviewer.

Parks
Parks I have not played but it looks so pretty and it instantly reminded me of nomandates’ posts of photos from the National Parks. From all appearances, this one looks like a good introduction to modern board gaming, aka a “gateway” game.

Teotihuacan
Personally, I like really complex, “crunchy” games, ones that really exercise the brain. I am also a fan of a group of Italian designers, of which the designer of Teotihuacan is one. This game was a birthday present to me and it is arriving this weekend...so I am very excited about that. What’s not to like about a game whose main currency is not gold but cocoa? And whose central feature is a pyramid? Here is Gaymer James’ review of the game.

The weekend begins now. Come in, be comfortable, and share your day, your weekend plans, your menus! This is an open thread.
