Happy Tax Day everyone!
Last week was a great week for Prince William politics, and for our campaign. We joined together with progressives throughout Prince William County to elect the first African American to our County Board of Supervisors — Victor Angry. Our county is over 150 years old, and is 20% African American, so this has been a long time coming.
I’m Kenny Boddye, and I’m running for the Prince William County (Virginia) Board of Supervisors to represent the Occoquan District. We’ve got major local and state elections this year, and I’m running for the seat once held by Corey Stewart.
I’m also proud to announce the endorsements of both Our Revolution and CASA In Action; both of which hit our inbox last week and I’m excited to share today.
First — Our Revolution!
As many of you know, Our Revolution began as a successor movement to the Bernie Sanders 2016 Presidential Campaign, but it has become a lot more than that over the last three years. Our Revolution has been on the forefront of fighting for intsersectional justice in the areas of campaign finance reform, worker’s rights, healthcare, racial justice, and combating the climate crisis.
With this endorsement, our campaign joins a proud legacy of progressive champions such as Delegate Elizabeth Guzman and Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy at the state level, and Representatives Pramila Jayapal, Jamie Raskin, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib. All of these representatives have devoted themselves to fighting for people over profit, and our campaign has shared that vision from day one.
The Occoquan District – and Prince William County overall – is ready for a county board with new ideas, and the political courage to put citizen interests ahead of developer ones. This endorsement is a testament that we possess both.
Next — CASA in Action!
Here's what they said:
"A long-time advocate for the rights of immigrants and people of color, Kenny is deeply committed to exposing the racism and xenophobia of our County's past and work to achieve equity for all residents in Prince William County.”
Prince William County is the largest majority-minority in Virginia; in the past we ran from it or tried to change it.
I think we should embrace it.
That’s why it’s vital that we acknowledge our past sins against the immigrant community, and build a county where they can thrive.
The bridge to a brighter future means one for our immigrant brothers and sisters, too, regardless of documentation status, country of origin, or religion.
I’m excited to work with CASA In Action to flip Occoquan, and fight for immigrants throughout Prince William County!
