There has been a lot of talk about what and how will minorities vote during this election cycle. We have a clue now with the latest Latino Decisions Poll
First Favorability, only 4 candidates hold above 45% fav, it is not a big suprise as half of them are very known entities, one is Latino, and the other has represented a majority Latino district and has championed Immigration Issues. Joe Biden (59%), Bernie Sanders (58%), Beto O’Rourke (48%), and Julián Castro (45%).
Harris and Warren follow but, surprisingly, Warren has the highest unfav… would be interesting to dig into name recognition and Latinos by region.
“This poll confirms what we have known for some time—that the Latino vote is very much up for grabs in the race for the democratic presidential nomination in 2020,” stated Arturo Vargas, NALEO Educational Fund chief executive officer. “Candidates vying for the opportunity to challenge the President will need to invest in a robust Latino voter engagement effort if they want to secure the support of Latinos in the upcoming primaries and caucuses. By showing up to address the issues of most concern to Latinos during our presidential candidate forum at Telemundo Center this June, candidates can send a clear message that that they value the support of the Latino community and its political leadership.”
only 29% of voters have made up their mind on a candidate so the field is up for grab (hint hint)
a bunch have room to grow in name recognition, those with unknown recognition 50% or above:
- Jay Inslee (57%)
- John Hickenlooper (54%)
- Tulsi Gabbard (52%),
- Amy Klobuchar (51%)
- Mayor Pete (50%).
They are very engaged in the dem primary 90% are sure to vote. Their primary concern are healthcare and the economy.
oh, and Trump
If the election were held today, President Donald Trump would be in trouble with Latino voters. Nearly three in four (72 percent) Latino voters hold an unfavorable view of the President. Texans (79 percent), those aged 18-29 (77 percent) and Spanish-speaking respondents (75 percent) were most likely to hold a negative view of the President. Of those polled, 20 percent said they would or were leaning towards voting to re-elect President Trump. Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) of Latinos indicated that they plan to vote for the Democratic candidate in Election 2020.
we can see there is a significant % of Latinos who may vote GOP or not vote… make them want to vote first…. second to realize why they should vote Dem.
¡Vamos hermanos, a votar!
