Despite the efforts of Attorney General “Roy Cohn” Barr to protect Don the Con The Mueller The AG’s Redacted Version of the Mueller Report has been released to Congress and the public.
Even the Commander (a Security Guard not an Attorney) whose knowledge of law is limited to Probable Cause and Proper use of Miranda could see that the evidence that DtC may have committed obstruction is pretty self evident. This was summed up by the full quote from the OSC (not the one in the Barr Summary):
“If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgment.”
In the words of Presidential Historian Jon Meacham (speaking on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell): If this is what we know He’s done, Lord knows what he’s done that we don’t know or that he might do.
So this is where we stand. The OSC refuses to make any recommendations. The Attorney General Presidents Consigliere is hell bent on protecting his client, so no help from him. And the majority of Republicans are doubling down on the no collusion or obstruction meme because they are afraid to go against the Trump base. All that is left is for the Democratic majority is whether to form a House Committee to investigate possible high crimes and misdemeanor’s that may lead to article’s of impeachment bought to the floor.
It will not be an easy decision. It may be ultimately futile, given the Republican majority in the Senate. And If the Mighty Wurlitzer succeeds in convincing a majority of the electorate that a vote to impeach (no matter the evidence) is nothing more then Democrat’s seeking revenge for losing the 2016 Presidential Election it may even lead to huge election losses in the elections of 2020.
But it is the hard right (right thing to do) and not the easy wrong. The easy wrong (and perhaps the safe one) would be to follow Majority Leader Hoyer and take Impeachment off the table.
Perhaps the Commander is not being practical. But those of us who still believe that we are a Nation of laws and not Men: what price do we pay for victory? Donald John Trump broke the law and has been doing so for all of his adult life. He has never been held accountable for his criminal activity, but he should be. This does not change even if his Republican enablers won’t do what is right because they care more about their career then their Country.
The question remains for us Democrats, do we?
