Received this e-mail today from former Colorado House Majority Leader, Alice Madden’s (D. CO) U.S. Senate campaign:
It’s clear: All women should have the right to make their own health care decisions.
That’s why I believe it’s time to repeal the divisive Hyde Amendment.
By barring federal funds for abortion services, the Hyde Amendment prevents women from receiving the care they need – it especially harms women with low-incomes, women who work, and women serving in our military.
Make no mistake. This is about control and their attempt to divide us. But America’s strength comes from our willingness to stand together.
We cannot let narrow-minded politicians decide who – and who does not – have the right to retain the dignity to control their own bodies.
Enough is enough. It is time to elect leaders who reflect Colorado’s long-held values, who will fight to uphold ALL women’s constitutional rights to privacy.
But conservatives have only increased their efforts to interfere. You can see it in Sen. Gardner’s repeated attempts to defund Planned Parenthood and his support of anti-choice judges. You can see it in the flood of near-total abortion bans advancing at the state level. And you can see it in the punitive Hyde Amendment.
We can never let our guard down.
So join me in demanding an even playing field for ALL of us. Repealing Hyde is an important step forward, but there will always be more to do.
