Multiple reports have recently come out indicating that Donald Trump’s internal polling is, in a word, “worrisome.” A new clip of Trump speaking to reporters in the Oval Office reminds us that Trump’s relationship with reality is also “worrisome.”
“We are winning in every single state that we poll,” Trump said Wednesday. Nope—no, you’re not. NBC News is reporting a little freak-out among Trump’s advisers, who are begging of him, “Same policies, less craziness.” The New York Times reports that Trump instructed his aides to lie about “devastating” internal polling from 17 states showing him trailing Joe Biden in key swing states.
Trump’s external polling is “worrisome” too. He trails every top-tier Democrat in a recent national Quinnipiac poll, with his ceiling at about 41-42%. Nor are things looking good for Trump in critical swing-state polling in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin (where his approvals are also heavily underwater.) Heck, even the once ruby-red state of Texas appears to be in play, according to recent Quinnipiac polling.
The mere fact that Trump finds it necessary to state publicly that he’s “winning” in every state is a tell that he’s absolutely not winning in every state, and far from it. The guy is nothing if not predictable.
