Here is today’s news from Liberal Minded Ladies of Substance on this rainy Thursday, June 13, 2019.
I watched the speech on Democratic Socialism yesterday, and then saw Trump turn around and agree that he would take information from a foreign government on his opposition. I just watched Kevin McCarthy (House Minority leader) attempt to correlate the Steele Dossier to the interference in 2016. It’s absolutely disgusting and concerning that this is the path Republicans are choosing. Are there no morals left in the GOP?

NEWS STORIES
27 Pulse survivors, family members and first responders share their stories -- -- Yesterday was the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting. It should always be important to share their stories.
'I think I’d take it': In exclusive interview, Trump says he would listen if foreigners offered dirt on opponents -- -- If offered information on a political rival from a foreign country, Trump would accept it and not warn the FBI that a foreign country was interfering in the election. First of all, "protect America from enemies foreign and domestic???" Trump is NOT AMERICA. Second of all, this is another "Hey Russia" moment. He's indicated to foreign powers that he will accept their help and not tell anyone.
Sanders goes full FDR in defense of democratic socialism -- -- His speech yesterday was FIRE. He has proposed a new Economic Bill of Rights, similar to FDR. “Now, we must take the next step forward and guarantee every man, woman and child in our country basic economic rights — the right to quality health care, the right to as much education as one needs to succeed in our society, the right to a decent job, the right to affordable housing, the right to a secure retirement and the right to live in a clean environment.”
Trump doesn't fit our stereotype of foreign dictators — because he's an American authoritarian -- -- Just because Trump doesn't look like Hitler or Saddam Hussein doesn't mean he isn't a fascist. Just because he hasn't killed anyone (yet) doesn't make him any less dangerous. He encourages violence against the press, against people who oppose him, and against people of color. In the early 20th Century, he would have sent in a security force to shoot his workers for wanting safe working conditions. Now, he just tweets out his desires and lets his followers do the shooting.
The Anger of the White Male Lie -- -- Ijeoma Oluo is right. We don't need to "listen to white men." We've done that for years. What has it gotten us? Women and people of color are prioritizing their safety and their futures over white male fragility, and it's scaring them. We need ideas that lift up ALL people, not just white men. We need to fix the system to benefit EVERYONE, not just keep white men in power.
Bernie Sanders: ‘We Have to Talk About Democratic Socialism as an Alternative to Unfettered Capitalism’ -- -- Sanders lays out his case on how taking care of citizens allows those citizens to be more active and involved in the affairs of the nation. American Capitalism has failed. It has poisoned our water, indentured our people, kept them sick and ignorant. It has divided our country by enforcing a system that prioritizes wealthy white men over the poor, the person of color, and the woman. For this system to change, we require more than just "a reordering of Capitalism" (as Biden put it.) We need to change the system, and we can only do that when we all, the 99%, work together.
House Intelligence Committee subpoenas Flynn, Gates -- -- They are ordered to produce documents by June 26 and appear before the committee for sworn testimony on July 10.
Bernie Has Opened the Door for Democratic Socialism -- -- We need a clear path which does not rely on the corruption or the bigotry of previous years. We need to pull ourselves away from reliance on a system which, for too long, has separated us. If we do not have a candidate that is brave enough to embrace that change, embrace that fight, America is at risk because they will falter under the pressure. A candidate can claim that's what they want, but unless they are strong enough to full-throatedly endorse that change, no matter the slings and arrows from the GOP, they will simply cave in the future and leave us stranded.
The Koch Brothers Want to Prevent Future AOCs -- -- Guess who's back? This time, the Koch brothers intend to co-opt the Democratic party and make sure that the wealthy continue their uninterrupted reign over the people. This is so important, especially when you remember that the DCCC plans on blackballing companies who work with candidates (like AOC) who challenge incumbents. These people have a vested interest in keeping the system the way it is. We need to consciously choose candidates who are NOT in favor of the status quo.
Ten cities say Trump owes them money from rally security -- -- Following up on a previous story, ten cities have come forward to reveal that Trump has not paid his police bills dating all the way back to his 2016 campaign. It's not a surprise, after all, Trump has bragged about not paying contractors, calling it "very smart business." However, I also believe that cities should start refusing to host without payment up-front.
