Good evening, Kibitzers! Before I take up the topic at hand, I’d like to give a progress report. You may recall that, about six weeks ago, I complained that a robin was pounding on my window day after day. I surmised that he was attacking his reflection, and hoped he would soon meet a nice female robin and settle down. Sadly, he has not shown any sign of tiring of his pastime. I don’t even pay attention any more, other than to offer some fairly mild imprecations about the mess he’s made of the windowpane, now smeared with greasy robin-beak smudges.
Today, I happened to look into the room while he was hammering. There he was, sitting on the window a/c as usual, going at it, yet there he also was in the tree. No, not quite. That’s a juvenile robin in the tree. When I went to a bigger window, I could see there were three young ones around the yard. They’re pretty big, and well able to fly, but their dad is still hammering, so go figure. I hope he doesn’t teach his boys to do it!
More robin pix just below the fold.
But these blurry robin shots are not why I called you here. It’s Sir Paul McCartney’s birthday! He’s 77, gods love him, and scarcely slowed down at all, although his voice has unmistakably aged. I’m going to post some performances I like, and you are entirely free to skip mine and/or add your own favorites. Happy birthday, Paul, and many more!
I’d like to welcome our friend bastrop back to KTK! He feels he’ll be able to be back at Daily Kos more often now, and that’s excellent news for fans of good writing and good photography.
Yet a third hurricane season started June 1, and Puerto Rico is still struggling to recover.
It is Day 636 since Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico.

The Daily Kos community has its own project: Puerto Rico resident Bobby Neary (newpioneer) leads a small team dedicated to helping a specific rural elder who was left by the storms without power, water, a roof, or any belongings but a moldy mattress. If you like to see concrete results, this is the project for you. See newpioneer’s diaries for ways to help. See this one in particular, and this comment with photos. See also his lovely and heartbreaking poem, and his recent tribute to the island.
