I’m sure everyone has music from their childhood that is especially beloved, that stirred their imagination then and can magically transport them again back to that age of wonder. For me it was a couple of vinyl boxed sets on the Vanguard label called “Folk Song and Minstrelsy” and “American Folk Singers and Balladeers”.
When my mother died I made sure to save those albums from the sale. I copied the music to cassette tape so I could play them in my car (yes, I had an old car with a cassette player until 2010. I don’t suppose today’s cars even come with CD players.)
But in 2013 I had to sell my house and kind of panicked at the thought of having to reduce the contents of a three story house into what could fit in a one bedroom apartment. I did some rash things, none of which I regret too much except for taking all my vinyls to Half Price Books (for a pittance). I have had such yearnings to hear my favorite songs again. I have thought about buying the albums (The vinyls are still available on Amazon) and one of those turntables that will covert to a digital format (My ancient half burned out amplifier had gone to recycling and my turntable and speakers to Goodwill) but I have never gotten around to it.
So imagine my joy when I discovered just this week that all the songs are available on YouTube. Most of them anyway. They’re kind of hidden and hard to find, but they’re there. I am sharing a few of my favorites. Really, all the songs are my favorites, but that would make for an excessively bulky diary.
