In what was a little covered story, the America hating Trump regime was humiliated by the United Nations Security Council, yesterday 15 August, 2020.
At issue was the expiry of the 2007 arms embargo, a “carrot” part of the Iran nuclear deal. The Trump administration claimed that the embargo should not expire because of their declaration that Iran is a terrorist state. Trump’s de-facto boss, Russia argued the U.S. has no place presenting resolutions on a deal that it walked away from. The normally loyal European Union allies expressed concern that extending the embargo would cause Iran to withdraw from the nuclear deal.
So America was humiliated and heavily defeated. The UNSC overwhelmingly voted against the U.S. resolution to indefinitely extend an arms embargo. As a result the 13-year old embargo will expire in mid-October. Unless the US can persuade the other nations to vote for a compromise extension Iran will be able to buy and sell conventional weapons without U.N. restrictions.
The US was joined only by the Dominican Republic. Russia and China voted no. The 11 other countries abstained.
Trump’s incompetence has now allowed Russia to take a lead on Iran, something that they have strategically wanted for decades. In anticipation of Trump’s defeat at the UN Security Council, Putin has called for a meeting of the permanent members of the UN, Germany and Iran, to discuss ways of preventing a petulant Trump from further escalating tensions and causing more disruption to the nuclear deal.
Trump’s America is alone and basically friendless on the world stage. Trump is a failed President at home and abroad. January 2021 cannot come soon enough.
The Trump admin blames everyone else but themselves for their humiliation. Like his cult leader, Mike Pompeo was taking no responsibility for being on the wrong side of everything.
