Will the Democrats embarrass themselves August 24th when Postmaster General DeJoy appears before the Oversight Committee? They will if they allow the members of the Oversight Committee to have five minutes each to do the usual: pontificate, preen, ask questions all over the place, and stumble and fumble.
Democratic Judiciary Chair Nadler allowed five minutes to members to squander with Attorney General Barr July 28th, and it didn't go well: “For all the grab-bag of policy issues raised by the questioning, the exchanges proved to be more heated than illuminating.” What is needed is a smart, calm but persistent, prosecutorial lawyer who can professionally deal with DeJoy.
The emergency hearing with DeJoy is not being held as a chance for Committee members to strut their political stuff. It's urgent and important and deserves intelligent treatment, not the use of the 5-minute rule.
