Democratic members of Congress are calling for Donald Trump's lackey Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to be charged with inherent contempt and arrested if he refuses to testify before the House Oversight Committee as scheduled on August 24. DeJoy has been asked to testify “on his sweeping operational and organizational changes at the Postal Service, which experts warn could degrade delivery standards, slow the mail, and potentially impair the rights of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail.” This is a polite way of saying that DeJoy has been sabotaging the U.S. Postal Service to help Trump get re-elected by delaying and suppressing mail-in votes, and needs to answer for it. DeJoy has also been asked to submit documents and information previously requested by August 21.
I don’t know why Congress still wastes its time and ours with these polite “invitations” for Trump lackeys like DeJoy to come in and testify about the crimes they’re committing. Trump’s criminal administration has blocked all efforts by the House to carry out its constitutional duty of conducting oversight on the Executive Branch. At this point Congress should just go straight to subpoena with threat of immediate arrest for anyone who doesn’t show up. At least some members of Congress seem to be coming to the same conclusion:
I’ve already written to my Democratic member of the House demanding an immediate charge of inherent contempt against DeJoy and his immediate arrest if he refuses to testify. I encourage others to do likewise.
