The Huffington Post reports that U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R. CO) has been boosting a new Facebook ad touting his record being Trump lapdog. But as the article points out that the only place you won’t see it popping up is in Colorado:
In theory, the campaign may not have chosen any geographic targeting, and the ad has simply been seen by lots of people not in Colorado. That explanation is far-fetched, however, considering Gardner is the senator from Colorado and presumably has a significant number of Colorado connections on Facebook.
The other explanation is that the Gardner campaign deliberately excluded it from Colorado.
Gardner is one of the most at-risk senators in the 2020 cycle, with Democrats looking at it as one of their best pickup opportunities. The state increasingly leans blue, and Democrats have won the presidential election there the past three cycles.
Charles Kerr at The Denver Post has a great piece calling out the real Cory Garnder and not the one being advertised:
A revealing example of Gardner’s betrayal of Colorado and conservation values is his 2017 vote to end the BLM Methane and Waste Prevention Rule which was modeled on Colorado state rules and was estimated by the BLM to save more than $1 billion in wasted natural gas and pollution, eliminating 175,000-180,000 tons of methane emissions annually. Republican Senators Susan Collins, John McCain and Lindsey Graham voted to keep the rule, Gardner did not.
Worse than his abominable conservation record is Gardner’s betrayal of his oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. After the House impeached Trump, it was the responsibility of the Senate to try the president on the articles of impeachment. Gardner voted not to call any witnesses, joining the Republican majority, thus ending the trial. A Senate trial without witnesses is not a trial, and not to try an impeached president is a failure to support and defend the Constitution.
Lack of fiscal responsibility is a third, major failure of this senator from Colorado where most of us value responsible tax policy. Gardner abandoned Colorado values when he voted for the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017. This Paul Ryan-Mitch McConnell political gift to America’s richest citizens was one of the great failures of the Trump administration. The legislation directed 34% of the tax benefits to the wealthiest 1% of Americans, according to the Tax Policy Center. Working families clearly benefited, but the tax cut to corporations marked a significant shift in wealth distribution to large corporations and rich Americans. JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley received $18 billion of tax relief. The benefit to the Koch brothers is estimated at more than a billion dollars a year, and companies including Pfizer, General Electric and Chevron will save billions in taxes.

Senator Cory Gardner is a terrible subject for a documentary shot in his home state. After all, he’s rarely here. And when he is, he isn’t exactly accessible.
Gardner is the forty-something boy next door from the Eastern Plains with the blinding, impish smile; hair-sprayed salt-and-pepper Bob's Big Boy 'do; and cheeks like buttered rolls that an old-fashioned grandma couldn’t help but pinch. If you’re lucky enough to spot him, he has the energy of an enthusiastic middle-school teacher. But that's when you can spot him: There are corpses who interact more with the people of Colorado than does the incumbent Republican senator.
So when Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Nick Rosen of Sender Films took a break from producing hit climbing films like Valley Uprising and The Dawn Wall to make a doc calling out Gardner for his failure to show up for his constituents, the Boulder-based director had a challenge: How do you make a movie about a pol who's almost never around? Rosen's answer: A cardboard cutout of the senator might be more captivating than the man himself.
