I can’t believe I have to say this, but . . .
From The Independent:
Donald Trump has shown interest in another unproven Covid-19 treatment that was recommended during an Oval Office meeting with housing secretary Ben Carson and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, a Trump backer who – according to Axios – has stakes in the company that produces the experimental botanical extract, oleandrin.
The US president, who said last week that his Democratic opponent Joe Biden was “anti-scientific”, was said to have commented that “the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should be approving [the drug]”, following similar endorsements for unproven treatments such as hydroxychloroquine, ultraviolet light, and disinfectant.
Oleander, the plant from which oleandrin is derived, is highly toxic. Every part of the plant (including the smoke from burning it) is harmful and potentially deadly to humans and animals.
While oleandrin may turn out to have possible medical uses, this is not something amateurs like ourselves should be messing with. Do not interact with an oleander plant in any way. Do not take unproven supplements containing oleandrin, no matter how small the quantity. 100 grams of the living plant is enough to kill an adult horse. Dried compounds are even more concentrated.
In short, President Trump and Mike Lindell are irresponsibly promoting a substance that has the potential to kill you if you listen to them. Don’t do it. Remember the man who took non-medical hydroxychloroquine and died? Don’t be that guy.
