Tom Perez: End Presidential Caucuses

Hip, hip hooray. Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez wants to end presidential caucuses.

Hopefully, we will finally be rid of them.

To my way of thinking, caucuses discriminate against and disenfranchise too many people when it comes to selecting a presidential nominee. It discriminates against people like senior citizens, single-parent families, the working poor, those with health issues and others who don’t have the luxury of being able to devote multiple hours of their time engaging in the byzantine caucus process.

Those who participate in caucuses are not necessarily representative of the Democratic electorate as a whole. 

Caucuses are an anachronism in today’s presidential primary campaigns.

Perez doesn’t have the power to unilaterally eliminate caucuses, but says he will fight to do so.
