Some good news today out of Iowa courtesy of PPP’s latest poll conducted on behalf of MoveOn.org:
A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that President Trump’s handling of the US Postal Service is deeply unpopular among Iowa voters, and even less popular than his overall job performance. Just 36% of voters approve of his handling of the USPS, while a plurality (49%) disapprove. This leaves him 13 points underwater, compared to his 1 point overall, where 48% of Iowans approve of his job performance and 49% disapprove.
A plurality (49%) also believe that President Trump is intentionally damaging the US Postal Service in order to help him win reelection in November, and there is widespread support for the USPS and vote-by-mail initiatives.
-
66% think the USPS is critical to the nation during the coronavirus pandemic, while just 21% disagree.
-
59% think Louis DeJoy’s investments in USPS competitors are a conflict of interest, while just 21% disagree.
-
56% support Congress taking action to fully fund the post office to maintain the level of service prior to the changes recently made by the Postmaster General, while just 27% oppose it.
-
54% oppose a potential executive action from Trump that would curb vote-by-mail and damage the USPS financially, while just 34% support it.
The survey also finds Senator Joni Ernst trailing her opponent, Democrat Theresa Greenfield, by 3 points (48-45).
Public Policy Polling surveyed 729 Iowa voters from August 13-14, 2020. The margin of error is +/- 3.6%. 50% of interviews for the survey were conducted by telephone and 50% by text message.
