Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good: fossil-fuel subsidies are still in trouble

The Democratic National Committee this week quietly dropped language calling for an end to fossil fuel subsidies and tax breaks from its party platform

Trump has pimped for the fossil fuel industries because it’s still about money, just like dialing back some election promises in order to reinstate them after election day. Because the Trump recession needs to be fixed, and taking back Congress will move re-regulation back to the clean energy agenda, rather than the fracking fakery of “clean coal jobs”.

Party platforms are not policies, much like defunding police is more about the demilitarization of a burgeoning police state. Also remember that Trump-Russia is also about fossil fuels as well as minerals.

"Democrats support eliminating tax breaks and subsidies for fossil fuels, and will fight to defend and extend tax incentives for energy efficiency and clean energy."

Eliminating subsidies for fossil fuels would have created global "net economic welfare gains" in 2015 of "more than $1.3 trillion, or 1.7 percent of global GDP,"

Biden will still build on the achievements of the Obama-Biden Administration to get G20 countries to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.

2019: a new International Monetary Fund (IMF) study shows that USD$5.2 trillion was spent globally on fossil fuel subsidies in 2017. 

 The world would be richer and healthier if the full costs of fossil fuels were paid.
