There seems to be a disagreement between Perez, and perhaps the whole DNC, and Candidate and Future President Joe Biden.
The DNC has removed the platform statement that opposes fossil fuel subsidies. Environmentalists called this out for what it was: a sellout to earth-destroying corporations, and a complete betrayal of everything that Biden, Sanders and others had worked so hard on to reach a campaign platform that included the strong progressive movement in the Democratic Party.
Fossil fuels, definition: Using taxpayer (e.g., our) money to PAY corporations to WORSEN the current climate catastrophe. This is corporate welfare of the worst imaginable kind. We needn’t look beyond California’s raging wildfires and Iowa’s “derecho” inland hurricane to see where this is leading us — and that is only this week’s climate news. Anyone who is not outraged by this is really not paying attention at all.
Biden, however, quickly responded to the regressive platform change, clarifying that he is 100% opposed to fossil fuel subsidies and will work to have the eliminated world wide. This is crucial: Biden’s environmental platform reflects some of his strongest, most progressive stances, and people who are concerned about the climate need to be motivated to support him on this.
