In previous articles, I have discussed that there were over one hundred contacts between Trump’s 2016 campaign officials and agents of the Russian government. I also discussed how the Trump campaign solicited and accepted help from Russia. It has long been the unanimous conclusion of the U.S. intelligence community and the GOP majority Senate Intelligence Committee that Russia interfered in the 2016 election with the goal of electing Donald Trump.
In another recent article, I discussed how Trump begged China’s President Xi for help in his re-election campaign and that Bloomberg has reported that China wants four more years of Trump.
Former special counsel Robert Mueller accurately described Trump’s solicitation of electoral assistance from the enemies of the U.S.:
SCHIFF: I gather you believe knowingly accepting foreign assistance during a presidential campaign is an unethical thing to do.
MUELLER: And a crime in given circumstances.
SCHIFF: …also unpatriotic.
MUELLER: True.
Earlier this week, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a blockbuster report on how the Trump campaign collaborated with the Russians in an attempt to win the 2016 election.
I will post the pertinent excerpts with some commentary.
Trump campaign manager Paul “Manafort hired and worked increasingly closely with a Russian national, Konstantin Kilimnik. Kilimnik is a Russian intelligence officer. ..Kilimnik and Manafort formed a close and lasting relationship that endured to the 2016 U.S. elections. and beyond… On numerous occasions, Manafort sought to pass sensitive internal polling data and campaign strategy to Kilimnik. The committee was unable to determine why or what Kilimnik did with that information. The committee did, however, obtain ‘some information’ suggesting Kilimnik ‘may have been connected’ to Russia’s hacking and leaking of Democratic emails.”
The Senate Intelligence Committee found: “Extensive evidence of contacts between Trump’s campaign chair and what the report for the first time identified as a Russian intelligence officer…That the two Russians who met in 2016 at Trump Tower with Manafort, Kushner and Donald Trump Jr. have significant connections to the Russian intelligence services.”
In response to these damning findings, former Romney for President chief strategist Stuart Stevens tweeted: “I probably worked in over 100 campaigns. I never knew a candidate or campaign manager who wouldn’t have fired a staffer who had contact with a hostile foreign power and then called the FBI. What Trump campaign did was unprecedented, immoral and anti-American. “
Another significant finding was that the the Trump campaign team knew about the infamous Access Hollywood tape an hour before its release. This was the recording where Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women and “grabbing them by the pussy.” Upon learning of these revelations. Roger Stone put the word out to Julian Assange at Wikileaks to “drop the Podesta emails immediately.”WikiLeaks released the emails stolen by the Russians approximately 30 minutes after the Access Hollywood Tape was released.
We also learned that Trump committed perjury and gave false testimony to Robert Mueller in regards to this incident: “Trump, in written responses to the SCO, stated: ‘I do not recall discussing WikiLeaks with [Stone], nor do I recall being aware of Mr. Stone having discussed WikiLeaks with individuals associated with my campaign.’ Trump further claimed that he had ‘no recollection of the specifics of any conversations I had with Mr. Stone between June 1, 2016 and November 8, 2016.’ Despite Trump’s recollection, the Committee assesses that Trump did, in fact, speak with Stone about WikiLeaks and with members of his Campaign about Stone’s access to WikiLeaks on multiple occasions.”
The Senate Intelligence Committee found: “Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian effort to hack computer networks and accounts affiliated with the Democratic Party and leak information damaging to Hillary Clinton and her campaign for president. Moscow’s intent was to harm the Clinton Campaign, tarnish an expected Clinton presidential administration, help the Trump Campaign after Trump became the presumptive Republican nominee, and undermine the U.S. democratic process.”
The Senate Intelligence Committee concluded that there was clear and willing collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the 2016 election in order to harm the Clinton campaign and to assist the Trump campaign. Every word of this explosive report was signed off on by Republican Trump allies.
One of those allies was Nebraska’s Ben Sasse. As I discussed in an earlier post, as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sasse was aware of the dangers posed by the corona virus pandemic as early as January 24. Unfortunately, Sasse did nothing to warn and/or prepare his constituents for this grave crisis. Instead, he focused on his re-election campaign and an abortion messaging bill.
These new revelations from the Senate Intelligence Committee raise some serious questions about Nebraska’s junior Senator. What did Ben Sasse know about Trump’s collaboration with Russia and when did he know it? Was Sasse aware of this treason when he voted earlier this year to block witnesses at the impeachment trial and to acquit Trump?
These are relevant questions since the U.S. intelligence community has warned us that Russia will be attacking the 2020 elections in order to help re-elect the former TV reality star. It is our enemies’ interest to keep in office a person who is totally unfit to be president and who will further wreck this country.
The solution to Sasse’s support of Trump is to repeal and replace Sasse with Alisha Shelton. Due to Chris Janicek’s meltdown, Shelton has emerged as the de facto Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race. I would urge everybody to help out Alisha Shelton. We all deserve better. Much better. Now let’s get it done!
