Just want to highlight an important facet of Bannon’s arrest today on charges filed by the Southern District of New York Attorney General’s Office:
Now, I don’t know about you but I had NO idea there was a ‘criminal investigating arm’ of the Postal Service:
The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) or the Postal Inspectors, is the law enforcement arm of the United States Postal Service. Its jurisdiction is defined as "crimes that may adversely affect or fraudulently use the U.S. Mail, the postal system or postal employees."
As fact-finding and investigative agents, Postal Inspectors are sworn federal law enforcement officers who carry firearms, make arrests and serve federal search warrants and subpoenas. Inspectors work closely with U.S. Attorneys, other law enforcement agencies, and local prosecutors to investigate postal cases and prepare them for court.
I can only assume someone is pitching a procedural USPS: CIA for NBC as we speak. More importantly, the involvement of the Postal Inspection Service can’t be a coincidence.
Was the SDNY just trying to make a dig at Trump? Or is the Inspection Service involved in a deeper level with the indictment regarding Border Wall money fraud? All indications point to the latter:
“No one is above the law.”
If so, the next question is clear: Was DeJoy’s placement as Postmaster General in any way related to knowledge of this investigation and will he be made to answer questions regarding this indictment at his upcoming hearing?
