After seeing the photos of the Post Office’s sorting machines having been disassembled and/or demolished there are many questions which need to asked, and importantly, potential criminal activity that should be investigated.
These machines were public property. They were highly specialized equipment, uniquely constructed, and essential to the operations of the Post Office. Clearly, they were expensive, by all reports in working condition, and would require considerable study, communication, and procedures to be followed before they could be removed, and apparently, disposed of.
The are processes to be followed to declare Federal property surplus, and processes for authorizations as well as the means for their disposal. There should be a lengthy record of who initiated these actions, who reviewed and approved it, who directed it, and the actual persons involved.
The Post Office’s Board of Governors would likely have been required to approve this action.
Any unauthorized destruction of Federal property of this value is a crime. There is only reporting that Louis DeJoy unilaterally made this decision, ordered the actions, without informing the Board of Governors, all appointed by Trump.
Trump sent the military to protect Federal property in Portland, and he sent DeJoy to destroy Federal property in Post Offices across the nation.
When DeJoy said that he was pausing the destruction because of unintended consequences he was only doing damage control. He is lying. Every worker in every post office in the nation knew what the consequences would be. Every. Single. One.
The cost of the damage inflicted by DeJoy goes far beyond the value of these sorting machines. What price can you place on his attack on our democracy and elections, or the cost to rebuild our mail system to its previous capacity?
DeJoy is a criminal. He should be treated as such. As should all those who conspired with him.
