Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
I’ve come to think of this post as one where you come for the music and stay for the conversation—so feel free to drop a note. The diarist gets to sleep in if she so desires and can show up long after the post is published. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.

Good morning everyone. Here it is Friday already—time flies when you’re having fun (but not necessarily during a pandemic lockdown).
Not much to report from the gulf coast this week. Work was fine: at least as fine as work can be under such circumstances and in this heat. Still, I’ve felt a bit of a wavering on the summer’s brutality. The temps aren’t quite getting to suffocation levels and the evenings are almost pleasant. While I know that fall is still a ways off for south Louisiana, I can see the signs that it will be here eventually. The summer, it seems, is getting tired.
I do hope everyone has had a week to remember and that the weekend still holds some surprises.
