We’re carefully watching the firelines in the Santa Cruz mountains. We are the third generation to care for the family cabin, built of scrap at the start of the Great Depression. If the fire sweeps through, we will only lose our sanity getaway. All of our friends and neighbors who we’ve gotten to know over the past 35 years will lose everything.
The fires are surrounding the Bay Area, turning many of our most beautiful spots to ash while destroying numerous communities. Point Reyes, the San Mateo Coast, Santa Cruz Mountains, San Antonio Valley, Napa and Sonoma (again), communities like Vacaville, Boulder Creek… the losses are adding up.
I know that are many local Kossacks — how are all of you faring?
