I know. We all are sick of stories about Trump voters. The Guardian, though, has a piece on Trump voters in Iowa with a bonus: a clueless, self-absorbed Trumper saying the quiet part out loud.
The Trumper in question is a dairy farmer, and he wants you to know that he’s doing just fine.
“I’m more for Trump than I was before. As a dairy farmer, I feel like I’m sitting better than I have in 10 years.”
Now, the thrust of Guardian’s story is about Trump’s narrowing lead in Iowa, but I can’t get past the fact that this guy is all in for our train-wreck, dumpster-fire, epic-failure of a president because “I feel like I’m sitting better ….”
The dumb-as-dirt clown that we made the most powerful man in the world has multiple, demonstrable mental pathologies. He is an out-and-out racist and an admitted sexual predator. He rips children, infants even, from their parents’ arms and throws them in cages. He undermines American foreign policy in every instance and in ways that benefit our adversaries, notably, Russia. He fawns over dictators while casting off American values, including the Constitution, as if they were yesterday’s rags. He is staggeringly corrupt and has corrupted every corner of our government to the point that we are in imminent danger of losing our republic.
Yet, all these qualification for office — the failings, the depth of his ineptitude, the breadth of his incompetence — somehow, proved insufficient against a global pandemic. We have 170,000 American dead with no end in sight. Obama’s stubbornly robust economy, the greatest gift any new president could have asked for, has been trashed. Millions are out of work and facing if not already experiencing complete ruin and life on the streets. And all the while, Trump continues to take a pass on even the pretense of leadership.
But hey, this guy in Iowa is in dairy and dairy is doing A-Okay. So, yay Trump.
This isn’t Fox (though the fetid mark of Fox is unmistakable in other interviews in the Guardian piece). This is pure self-absorption, which is to say, Trumpism. This is sociopathy. Or maybe not. I don’t know. Sociopath might be too severe a label for people like this dairy farmer. But neighbor, friend, citizen, or decent human being are not fitting labels, either.
