Congratulations Kamala. You worked hard to earn respect and a place at the table. In fact, the disgusting attacks against you from the usual white male jackasses highlights just how much harder you had to work to get to this point.
This historic nomination has reminded me of the women in my family. Each one knows their inner power and strength to be a woman in the world. I’d say ma taught them that one.
Ma got married in 55’ to a guy who just got out of the navy. They moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to Venice, California. They had three children and he got alcoholism. Ma will tell you it took her longer than it should to realize her own power to be in charge of her life, but it finally happened. Divorced and raising three kids while holding down a full time minimum wage job that paid the bills back then, she took control of the forces that she was once felt victimized by. My sister and by extension her nieces grew up fully realized in the fact that they did not take a backseat to anyone.
Kamala’s nomination is just the latest chapter in the long struggle to be free from what us guys think. So, I dedicate these songs to all of the women here in MOTland and wish you the very best, with my utmost gratitude and respect.
