For Donald Trump, voting itself remains a conspiracy. In Kansas, like many states, advanced ballot (absentee voting) has been a part of our election process for years. Counties run early voting locations, drop boxes, and provide access to those who want it. Now, the state of Kansas is going to extend that, by offering each county up to two more drop boxes that can be placed for people who want to receive a by-mail ballot and drop off in person. From the Associated Press:
The Kansas secretary of state’s office has offered each of the state’s 105 counties up to two drop-off boxes where people can deposit their absentee ballots for the November election if they don’t mail them in or want to risk voting in person because of the coronavirus threat.
How successful has mail-in voting been this year?
She attributed that in part to aggressive public outreach efforts informing people of the various options for returning their primary mail-in ballots in Kansas.
Voters returned about 83% of the more than 315,000 mail-in ballots sent out during the state’s primary election.
There is every reason to work to extend more voters the opportunity to participate. I have not heard Donald Trump complain about this practice in Utah, Kansas, and elsewhere. He will just complain when it doesn’t suit his desire. Voting, however, isn’t about suiting the desire of any single person or party. It is about helping the population cast their vote for the government they desire.
