You could say, “We know in our bones that Donald tRUmp is wrong for America.” If you did that, you’d be buying into a typical republican style of framing declarative statements. This republican party is built around unproven assertions, gut feelings and flights of dark fantasy. We know that Donald tRump is wrong for America because he’s personally testified to that fact every single day of his adult life.
Conservatism, as practiced by today’s republican party, is based on fear of change and fear of the other. They’ve displayed a refusal to confront the challenges of today (and of the future), hoping they’ll magically disappear. Faced with a global pandemic and overwhelming evidence of catastrophic climate change their response has been the same — do only as much as they are forced to do by liberals and progressives. If they could ignore these crises, and concentrate solely on continuing to directly siphon wealth into the pockets of their clique, they would. They’ve testified to that fact during their entire time in power.
To the very limited extent that an inconsistent fantasy steeped in magical thinking and stubborn denial can be called a political philosophy, republican thinking has devolved into a parody where a roomful of drunks share their deepest most profound belches of questionable wisdom, playing an odd staccato drumbeat as their besotted heads bounce helplessly up and down on the table.
That brings up several questions. We can easily characterize and describe the republican leadership group. The politicians running the party have shown themselves to be openly and deeply corrupt, lacking in vision and interested only in maintaining power instead of representing their constituents. Their casual cruelty, callous disregard and bellicose ranting is on universal display. They should not be able to maintain a following.
What keeps republicans from coming within shouting distance of doing the right thing until they are no longer republicans?
What, possibly shared, epiphany drives republicans into apostasy and away from their cult?
What is it that attracts prospective cultists to the incomprehensible mess that is the republican stance on the pressing issues of today?
I don’t have the answers to these questions, but I suspect the Betsey DeVos clone army is trying to make it easier for republicans to recruit members by destroying our next generation’s ability to reason.
Let’s get out the vote, shall we?

Evening Shade appears every evening at 7:30PM Eastern (unless I get lazy).
Cut and Paste Department. This is the regularly scheduled plea for readers. I’ve still only had to make two memes. You have it within your power to make me work. If you spread the word about Evening Shade and your spreadee announces themselves in the comments, you will become eligible to receive your very, very special noprize of a meme of your very own. All you have to do is jump up and get out there and start carnival barking, cajoling, proselytizing (or pimping, if you are of an irreligious bent). You could even pester and push. Procrastination is not an option — it’s a way of life.
