We promised BM Scott opera and while this song isn’t from an opera, it is sung by the Three Tenors. (We’re working our way up to opera.)
O Sole Mio is one of the most beloved of their repertoire, not only by the audience but by the tenors themselves. It is worth watching the video all the way through just to see the by-play between the three of them as they work out whose turn it is to sing which part of the song!
The Three Tenors are Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras. While they sing the original Italian lyrics, the Moondai Furkids decided to translate them for you (except for one line) as they illustrated them. O Sole Mio has been sung in English many times but always with newly-minted lyrics, never with a direct translation. The furkids decided that the latter is more fun and I have to agree.
The jukebox is full of Italian coins, as is fitting for a Neapolitan song, and ready to go!
