[8/25/2020 UPDATE: The news stories linked to below have all updated and added considerably to their coverage of the lawsuit and are not just announcements anymore. The word “BREAKING” has been removed from this diary’s headline. ]
Just now appearing in the media, news of N.Y. Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit on behalf of the People of the State of New York has been released on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
Early releases of the news say the actual complaint is “not yet available”. But we do have this confirmation:
And yes, Eric Trump is one of the defendants.
Following Letitia James on Twitter might well be the best way to keep abreast of this development.
UPDATE: Here’s a clue as to the possible substance of the suit: Co-defendants in the NY AG's suit include the law firm Morgan, Lewis, & Bockius - recognized by Chambers & Partners’ 2016 Chambers Europe guide as “Russia Law Firm of the Year”.
UPDATE: A few more clues via Courthouse News:
New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a sealed petition against the Trump Organization on the eve of the Republican National Convention, seeking to compel disclosure on an unspecified topic....
Along with the Trump Organization, the proceeding James initiated Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court names as defendants the president’s son Eric Trump, DJT Holdings LLC, DJT Holdings Managing Member LLC, Seven Springs LLC, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, Charles Martabano, and Sheri Dillon.
UPDATE: Thanks to The Washington Post, the “unspecified topic” is now specified:
The New York Attorney General is investigating President Trump’s private business for allegedly misleading lenders by inflating the value of its assets, the attorney general’s office said Monday in a legal filing.
In the filing, signed by a deputy to Attorney General Letitia James, the attorney general’s office said it is investigating Trump’s use of “Statements of Financial Condition” — documents Trump sent to lenders, summarizing his assets and debts.
The filing asks a New York state judge to compel the Trump Organization to provide information it has been withholding from investigators — including a subpoena seeking an interview with the president’s son Eric.
...
Many of the details of the investigation were redacted or left out of the filing. But it mentioned valuations of three Trump properties: a Los Angeles golf course, an office building at 40 Wall Street and a country estate called “Seven Springs” in Westchester County, N.Y.

8/25/2020 UPDATE: This Law & Crime article on the lawsuit links to the relevant court documents.
New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a series of court documents against President Donald Trump’s businesses and son Eric Trump aimed at forcing the release of sensitive financial information that may have been used to commit fraud.
...
James is currently investigating whether the Trump Organization–including the 45th president himself–improperly inflated the value of assets “on annual financial statements in order to secure loans and obtain economic and tax benefits,” according to the memo.
