This will sting the Donald. Ratings are all-important to him. He lost the ratings “war” for the first night of the convention compared to the first night for the Democratic convention.
Also, as Trump gave his “nomination acceptance speech” already yesterday, what is there to watch for on Thursday? I bet the ratings will be down compared to the DNC Convention all week for the Trump Convention.
Deadline: Joe Biden Tops Donald Trump In TV Viewership For First Night Of Convention
The first night of the Republican National Convention drew 15.8 million viewers across six networks, a significant falloff from the 18.7 million who tuned in to the Democratic National Convention’s debut evening.
Fox News was way ahead of its rivals in coverage during the 10 PM ET hour, with 7.1 million total viewers, followed by CNN with 2.01 million, ABC with 1.98 million, NBC with 1.74 million, MSNBC with 1.6 million and CBS with 1.5 million. In the 25-54 demographic, Fox News led with 1.6 million, followed by CNN with 606,000, NBC with 541,000, ABC with 521,000, CBS with 424,000 and MSNBC with 308,000.
FoxNews got the lionshare of the viewing public. CNN, with likely mostly Democrats watching the racist, white supremacist, shitshow, was #2.
The figures are early numbers from Nielsen and were released by Fox News and CNN. The total viewership number also is a drop of about 30% from the viewers who tuned in to the first night of the Republican convention in 2016.
The figures do not include digital streaming, which has grown substantially in the past four years. Democrats and Republicans have promoted expanding viewing on various platforms, albeit the forms of measurement can vary.
The Daily Beast: RNC Ratings Down Significantly Compared to Night One of DNC
According to Nielsen, total TV viewership for night one of the RNC was 15.8 million. That represents about a 15% drop from the first night of the DNC, featuring former First Lady Michelle Obama, which drew 18.7 million viewers across all the three major broadcast networks and the three major cable news networks. The first night of the RNC dropped about 28% for the same night in 2016.
The best they have are Don Jr. and Guilfoyle. No wonder the RNC ratings are down compared to the DNC Convention.
Unlike CNN and MSNBC, which aired the vast majority of the first night’s speeches in their entirety, Fox News dipped in and out and actually cut away from former host Kimberly Guilfoyle’s speech before she had finished. Trump campaign adviser Brad Parscale complained on Twitter that he had to watch the proceedings on CNN and the president himself tweeted on Tuesday, “Very appreciative that @CNN covered the vast majority of the Republican Convention last night. That was really good for CNN, while at the same time being good for our Country. Thank you!”
FoxNews actually cut out of Guilfoyle’s speech. Parscale complained bitterly about FoxNews cutting out of the convention there. Trump and Parscale actually watched on CNN. Crazy.
