Some want to drain it, but it’s my home and I’m going to save it.
Growing up in southwest Florida I have seen constant tree removal and construction. I remember thinking “when is it going to be done?” all the time as a child and then learning over time that without smart development, we will always be in construction.
I’m in college for environmental engineering; at this point taking upper-level classes surrounding Florida algae blooms and systems of engineering. While working towards my bachelor's I work as a math tutor, and in food-industry jobs, and can’t seem to stay out of activism. I picked this field of study so I could be an environmental expert, but I’m finding that experts are not the ones who get to make decisions. Politicians are and the people who donate to politicians are. As a result, I see bad decisions or no decisions being made on a national level in response to climate change. I see bad decisions being made at the state level too, even though we’re in a coastal environment and will be affected by climate change the most. In addition, Covid-19 has been mismanaged from the beginning, Medicaid has not been expanded to the 800,000 who qualify, and renters continue to price gouge.
If I didn’t run now, we would automatically have Sugar Ray as a state senator; meaning more power to big agriculture.
I’m running for office now so that one day I’ll be able to do my job as an environmental engineer without restrictions from legislators.
I’ve gotten support from grassroots organizers like congressional candidate Cindy Banyai, 90for90, and the Democratic Environmental Caucus of FL. I’ve also been able to be a part of the Florida Climate and Economic Defense Initiative which surpasses dreams for a campus-wide Green New Deal.
The next two and a half months will be focussed on voter contact; door-knocking, with face shields and masks; phone calls, and postcard writing.
We need a lot of help taking this Senate seat. I’m not funded by the Democratic establishment, and Sugar Ray is endlessly funded by big sugar, agriculture, real estate, and the Republican party. We need help making calls and writing postcards to voters. If you have no time, please donate to help save the swamp at
