I do not believe in a God that intervenes and sends plagues or bad weather for messaging purposes (i.e., change your ways you evildoers!).
But if I did, wow, we’d be starting to get into Exodus.
Currently, Hurricane Laura is parked in the Gulf of Mexico and churning northwest at 17 mph. It has sustained winds of 90 mph and is headed for landfall somewhere near the Texas-Louisiana border (Port Arthur is currently the forecast track). It’s expected to continue getting stronger, entering a period of rapid intensification. That strenghtening will have it hit the Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm (there’s an outside chance of Category 4, depending on the pace of intensification).
So we’re talking the first major hurricane strike of the season hitting the United States late Wednesday into early Thursday. Tomorrow there will be media images of people and businesses getting ready with plywood and sandbags, ongoing evacuations and the outer squalls starting to roll in.
Trump’s big day on Thursday will be the aftermath of a major strike along the coast, but the damages will extend far inland. The storm surge alone could play havoc with bayous and inlets with heavy rains and flooding up into Arkansas). It will be the sort of disaster pornography that the media drools over and the first such event of this already active hurricane season.
Now this does rely on the forecast being accurate. A Category 1 storm is much less dangerous, but a Category 3 hit, that will dominate the news for multiple days. And sadly we can guess how “swift” and “effective” federal help will be.
With all of that going on will anyone be paying attention the RNC and Trump’s acceptance speech?
