Yesterday, I was watching this MSNBC segment that waded into the views of some NC women who support Trump, and it was one of those times I was left cursing and bellowing at the TV. This was such a terrible bit of journalism on sooooooo many levels. Normally, Chris Jansing does not annoy me like several other so called reporters on MSNBC, but this was a serious “Are you fucking kidding me?” moment.
For those not up on what happened, here is the video:
“Speaking for white America, we’re not bad people,” one white woman explained to Jansing. “We are very angry that African-Americans and the Black American community has been marginalized, victimized.”
She continued: “So what happens is, it’s like if you align yourself with Donald Trump, you’re a racist.”
Another woman agreed with the sentiment.
“I’ve tried to have these conversations and was just force-fed that I was wrong just because I was a white woman and I was a Trump supporter,” Hayden Desio-Munn complained.
“Yeah,” the first woman lamented. “We are suddenly all bad and so I think where white America feels frustrated [and it] makes us want to vote for Trump. So, it’s kind of backfiring.”
When Desio-Munn explained that Trump “wants to take the United States back where it should be,” the lone black Democrat on the panel spoke up to object.
Where to begin?
Yes, Jansing pointed out at the top of this segment that all those white Republican women think that Trump has delivered on a number of issues that are important to them, and this includes everything from abortion to IMMIGRATION.
Alarm bells should be ringing with that acknowledgement. These women think that Trump has done a good job on immigration. Separating immigrant kids from their parents and putting them in cages. And these women approve of Trump’s actions on immigration.
I don’t know about you, but even as an old white guy, I am seeing a three alarm racist fire here.
Then, the women go into Republican victimhood. They are being “force-fed” that they are wrong if a black person tells them they have nothing to contribute to racial injustice issues as long as they support Trump. You know even Stuart Stevens who has run a million Republican campaigns and is from the South said it doesn’t matter if you do not think you are a racist. If you support Trump, you are supporting a racist.
And because someone challenged these women who live in alternate universe, they are being forced to support Trump. Really? Someone brings up some nasty facts about your candidate, and it is “forcing” you to support said candidate. You cannot get off your ass and do a Google search about Trump, or think for yourself?
But one of the women let her inner racist fly with that “Trump wants to take the United States back where it should be.”
It’s left to the lone black Democratic women to politely call bullshit on that racist remark. And it is racist. And it is what these obviously white middle or upper class women object to the most. “How DARE you call me racist!” They have deluded themselves that they are not like other racists who are open and support white supremacy.
IF you support a racist, you are supporting racism. And racism in America requires the dehumanization of POC and the brutality to keep them in line. This is why we have lots of black men being killed by the police. These women are probably appalled that they have to see police brutality toward POC, but what do you expect when you support a man who routinely calls for violence and “tough” policing toward POC?
And that is the whole problem with these Media Safaris to discern the views of Trump supporters. Most Trump supporters are not honest or self aware. And all these damn dives into Trumpland show is that we have a lot of ignorant, stupid, and racist people in America.
I am more than aware of this by now.
And while Jansing didn’t point this out, let me tell you something about Monroe, NC. It was where the racist U.S. Senator Jesse Helms was born and raised. In fact, Helms’s father was the sheriff of Monroe. And the rumor mill for decades was that Helms’s father was a racist SOB. And from the looks of two of those women in this group, I am betting they old enougth to vote for Helms in his last election back in 1996.
I remember those lovely contests because I lived in NC for 17 years.
It was only at the end of this worthless segment that Jansing admitted that these Republican women are believers “in the Gospel of Trump.” Once again, what was the fucking point then? Oh! I can figure it out. Jansing was excited that these women were “going to keep the dialogue” going, even though it didn’t change any minds. The Media is very desperate for Americans to “come together” and have “unity.” And if we only talked to one another,..blah, blah, blah.
My Mom talked to her Republican sisters for over 60 years. Both my Aunts went to their graves supporting all Republicans and their policies. It made no difference that a loved one was talking with them all that time. People only change their mind when they choose to. And my experience is that it takes a world shattering event for some to ever question their assumptions and beliefs.
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant folks.
