In one sense this is “old” news. The Intelligence Committee Report was released more than a week ago. But despite being an obsessive political news junkie, I didn’t learn about this part of it until last Sunday, when my reaction was “Holy Crap. How did I not know about this?”
Sure, I knew about the Report’s validation of many of the Mueller Report’s findings, confirmation Kilimnik was a Russian agent and other revelations. But the criminal referrals were not in the headlines of the two “newspapers of record,” the New York Times and the Washington Post. The Post at least included that information in its articles, The Times did not mention it in its coverage. From the linked Post story:
The Intelligence Committee’s report notes that it had made referrals to the Justice Department “for potential criminal activity” suspected during the course of its investigation. As The Washington Post reported late last week, Trump Jr., Kushner and Manafort were among those flagged to federal prosecutors because the committee believed that their testimony was contradicted by information unearthed by Mueller.
It is unclear whether the Justice Department took action on the referrals.
[Ed. note — last line — irony intended or not?
Four years ago, Hillary Clinton not being the subject of a criminal investigation created at least a week’s worth of headlines and speculation. And here we have a Republican-led Committee voting for these cirminal referrals.
So this story is my smaill attempt to circulate this headline. Blog it, Tweet it, Facebook it.
GOP-led Senate Committee Makes Criminal Referrals for Don Jr., Kushner and Manafort
