So now the political conventions of the two major American political parties are over, we have our presidential nominees, and it’s general election season.
I’ve noticed here at Daily Kos and on social media that tensions on the Democratic side are (understandably) high and polarized.
On one hand, there are the harbingers of electoral gloom, fully aware that Murphy’s Law or something of that sort is in effect. The slightest drop in the polls for the Biden/Harris ticket, the ongoing civil disturbances...(it could be anything!) spells certain electoral doom for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
On the other hand, there’s the “we got this crowd” that’s brimming with confidence. Frankly, the “we got this crowd” has the evidence of the general election polls on their side as well as what seems to be a generally favorable news cycle..
The “we got this crowd” often asks other to forget about PTSD from the 2016 presidential election.
Frankly, I go back and forth with the two positions all the time to the extreme.
And a big part of the reason is the 2016 presidential election and everything that has unfolded since then.
I mean, I am kind of a data guy, a numbers dude (although not necessarily a conventional wisdom subscriber) and, at the present time, a lot of the indicators do seem to say that Joe Biden will win the presidential election on November 3 and this long national nightmare will commence to a conclusion.
Then again, a large part of me thought the same in 2016.
And like 2016, there will be all sorts of voter suppression, foreign interference and not to mention that The Damn Fool has the powers of the executive branch at his disposal...which he will use because...that’s what he does.
And he will do it without regard to anyone’s safety or life but his own...and maybe a few of those around him.
So I veer back and forth back and forth on that spectrum of possibilities and, truthfully, my guess would be that even people at the extremes do the same; after all, none of us knows the future.
I will admit, though, that my swings on that spectrum can get rather wild and sharp at times.
I guess the best thing for me to do is not to feel anything like guilty, not to judge myself too harshly, and simply stick my head into keyboard and do some work; which is more of a stabilizer of those wild swings than anything else.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. From Delta Overdue:
This comment by Arizona Mike struck me as hilarious in its cynical accuracy, and therefore worthy of Top Comment nomination. From Jen Hayden’s front page post on how RNC attendees are starting to test positive for COVID-19.
A “semi-bubble” Is that the same as having a peeing area in a swimming pool?
