How many times since 2015 has Trump promised to repeal Obamacare and replace it with “something terrific”, “something great”? On July 19, 2020 Trump told Chris Wallace in a Fox News interview, “We're signing a healthcare plan within two weeks, a full and complete healthcare plan.” On August 3, 2020 he said during a press briefing, “We’ll be doing, sometime during this month, the healthcare plan. And I think that’ll be before the end of the month. And I think it’ll be very impressive to a lot of people.” Monday is the end of August and Trump’s healthcare plan is due (again).
Of course it’s all malarkey. Most of what Trump says is all talk and no action. In real life, I run away from those types of people, the ones who like to discuss how smart they are but follow-up actions are rarely there. The ones who talk a lot and brag are usually the ones who don’t deliver. “Actions speak louder than words” is one of the most important life lessons I have learned and I wish Trump supporters would stop believing his words and look at what he does and who really benefits.
It especially bothers me when Trump bullshits about having a healthcare plan because health is an important ingredient to having a happy life and the US is a developed and wealthy country. It should be a basic right for everyone to have access to a doctor if they need one regardless of income (or lack of income). The US is the only industrialized nation without universal healthcare.
I used to be an American citizen but now live in Canada. Here the healthcare system is regulated by the government just like the police and fire services and our taxes pay for it. Most people in Canada, regardless of status, take it for granted they can see a doctor for free if they need one. People here don’t lose their homes or retirement savings because of medical costs and almost 90% of Canadians are happy with the services available to them.
There’s a lot about Trump that bothers me, but I find it particularly sadistic when he teases “I’ll give you better healthcare” and his actions prove he doesn’t care about it. Especially now with the pandemic. Why even say anything when you have no plan?
Most of this diary is just blowing off steam but I’d like to see a reporter call Trump out on his “tremendous” and overdue healthcare plan even though I know we’ll just get more bullshit.
