We all know Florida is continuously won or lost by the smallest of margins. Unfortunately for us, recently it’s been Democrats losing it by the smallest of margins — time after time.
To recap:
- Rick Scott only won by 64,145 votes (1% of the vote) in 2014
- Trump only ‘won’ by 112,911 votes (1.2% of the vote) in 2016
- Ron DeSantis only won by 32,463 (0.4% of the vote) in 2018
- Rick Scott only won by 10,033 (0.13% of the vote) in 2018
In steps Florida Senate candidate, Kathy Lewis...
In 2018, facing an entrenched Republican incumbent with ZERO help from the state party, she got 46.5% of the vote — with only $25,000 raised!
“Kathy Lewis, who’s running a second time for Florida’s Senate District 20, encompassing the Tampa–St. Petersburg area anchored by Hillsborough County, didn’t hear she was too liberal for the district in 2018. Mostly she didn’t hear anything, especially from Democratic Party leaders.”

And now, the sea is parting… And now, Kathy’s running in an open seat (which is known to be much easier to win in than against an incumbent). And now, Trump’s incompetence and idiocy has changed the landscape in even Pasco County, FL — where he won by 22 points in 2016!
To the political layperson, ‘18 points, 22 points, same difference!’ I get it, but that’s dead-wrong!
Her logic is simple: she’s a Black woman running in the Interstate-4 corridor of the country’s largest swing state. She represents a crucial Democratic constituency in a crucial part of the national electoral map.
“If we drive our race, we drive Biden,” Lewis said. “Not helping us to the fullest extent potentially hurts Biden.”
— Kathy Lewis to the Tampa Bay Times: www.tampabay.com/...
Trump won in swing states by such small margins that any erosion of support could be fatal. All we need to do is to get some help to candidates on the ground in these areas trying to win this election for us like Kathy Lewis. All we need to do is to press the advantage.
I know I’m making a contribution to Kathy tonight.
