This is just me writing out loud, trying to get myself into the proper frame of mind for the next two months. I pretty much have a “you do you” policy, so whether it’s a “we’ve got a long, treacherous way to go” or “we got this, just keep rowing” attitude that motivates a person more to work for the win, I’m all for it.
It just seems to me that I’m spending too much time these days evaluating arguments intended to persuade people that the reasoning for one prediction is better than the reasoning for a different one. That may be a useful exercise in critical thinking, but at this point, to me, it doesn’t really matter. Fact is, there’s about eight weeks left to do what can be done to impact the outcome. I don’t think trying to determine the merits of different arguments on the efficacy of this prognostication versus that one is the most effective use of my time.
So what is effective use of my time? Well, it’s doing what I can to make sure as many people on our side as possible vote and are counted. I have signed up for poll worker training next month, so already done that. I also committed to writing 20 letters to iffy voters that are likely to vote D if they can be persuaded to make it to the polls, and that project is underway. That’s where I need to keep my head at, finding things I am willing and able to do and doing them, not trying to parse the arguments about which prediction is better.
I always do best when I just keep my focus on the results I want and take the next necessary step to get there. I do worst when I start getting overwhelmed thinking about all the things that could keep me from getting to my desired results. At this point in this election, if I look at it realistically, nothing the other side could do would change what I need to be doing. The important thing is to stay in the game until the end.
Okay, I think my mind’s in the right place now. Thanks for reading!
